Broadnook Garden Suburb

Location: North of Birstall
Client: Palmer-Tomkinson Trust and Cooper Family
Sector: Assess Shape
Scope: Communities

Define are acting for landowners in respect of the promotion of this new garden suburb in Leicestershire. Broadnook continues the early 20th Century Leicestershire tradition of delivering garden suburbs along the route of the Grand Central Railway, and includes a new railway halt to continue this historic approach. The scheme includes up to 1,650 dwellings, 15 hectares of employment and a mixed use centre, which will include the Broadnook Trust Centre, alongside significant parkland, ecological and sports provision.

Define have developed the masterplan concept, led the design and review process, established the detailed design criteria, co-ordinated the emerging design detail, and are responsible for the overall scheme masterplan. Broadnook is identified in Charnwood Borough Council’s submitted Core Strategy as a Direction of Growth.
