The University campus is located above the city on Claverton Down, set within an acutely sensitive historic landscape that includes the World Heritage Site, the Chilterns AONB, a Conservations Area, SAM and numerous listed buildings and ecology sites. Part of the campus is also located within the Green Belt that wraps the city. The Campus Masterplan provides a long term vision for the provision of further academic and research facilities, student residences and sports facilities. It comprised of a Development Framework, Access and Movement Strategy and Green Infrastructure Strategy that seek to optimise the finite capacity for further built development whilst maintaining and enhancing the Campus environment that is an essential element of the University’s character. Campus masterplanning and planning policy matters have become ever more intertwined and complex, as the Council has sought to confine the University to its campus and limit its growth elsewhere in the city. We have therefore also had an on-going role representing the University in relation to planning policy development and provided planning feasibility and application advice in relation to emerging priority development projects.
