Perfectly pitched: A new state of the art pitch facility secured at the University of Bath
The University of Bath will shortly be the first university in the country to have built a new recyclable all-weather turf pitch that will form a key part of the Sports Training Village at its Claverton Down campus. The entirely recyclable artificial pitch uses the very latest technology and will significantly raise the bar for the sustainability standards of this kind of facility in the UK.
Bath and North East Somerset Council’s Planning Committee resolved to grant full planning permission for the construction of the new floodlit pitch and a multi-use games area on 28th June, marking the first step in the implementation of the University’s Campus Masterplan that was prepared by Define and which has now been incorporated into the adopted Local Plan.
The decision also marks a milestone in Define’s involvement at the University Campus, which spans over a decade.
The new facility will greatly improve the quantity and quality of outdoor pitch provision on campus to meet the growing demand for facilities by both University students and the wider community. Its delivery will also enable the future delivery of much-needed Purpose Built Student Accommodation on campus.
The development underpins the University’s commitment to protecting the local environment and we are excited to see the delivery of a scheme that is ultimately the product of careful collaboration within the Define office and across the consultant team as a whole!
