Furtho Garden Community
Define (on behalf of Vistry Group) are promoting Furtho Cross located in the south of Northamptonshire, on the borders of Milton Keynes, as a new Garden Community.
Services: Masterplanning, Landscape Planning & Design
Location: South Northamptonshire
Date: 2021 - Present
Client: Vistry Group
The area that forms part of the Oxford Cambridge Arc and has the ability to function to support both the rural community of South Northamptonshire and benefit from the amenities and facilities in the developing regional centre of Milton Keynes. The site, identified within the Spatial Vision of the West Northamptonshire Strategic emerging plan, is part of an option for a new settlement in the South of Northamptonshire.
Define had produced a high level Landscape and Heritage led Conceptual Masterplan and Vision Document which sets out high level design principles for how land controlled by Vistry (in conjunction with neighbouring land) can deliver a substantial and complete part of the spatial option.
Inspired by its landscape and heritage, our Vision for Furtho Cross New Community is a collection of compact and connected sustainable neighbourhoods that contain all of the ingredients required to ensure the health and well-being of their residents, create distinct and thriving places, and enable low carbon lifestyles and biodiversity enhancement.
The Furtho Cross New Community will be planned, designed, and actively managed to be a separate but highly connected and integral part of the wider area. It will be a community that maximises the use of sustainable travel, including supporting the introduction of mass rapid transit as a means to access other destinations.
The scheme is at the start of a design process where this vision can develop alongside residents, stakeholders, officers and council members to deliver an exemplary new Garden Community.
